Traditional Palm Products Rooted in Odisha’s 4000 Year Legacy

Palm trees in Odisha’s Eastern Ghats have fed and sustained rural communities for over 4000 years. That tradition continues today through Orissa Rajya Talgur Samabaya Sangha Ltd, a cooperative established in 1959 to revive self-reliant villages through palm jaggery and traditional crafts.

Mahatma Gandhi called palm jaggery production “the way of banishing poverty from our land.”

Today the Sangha is run under government‑led cooperative management, but the work is still in the hands of thousands of artisans. We make nutrient‑rich date palm jaggery with a low glycemic index and eco‑friendly palm‑leaf crafts, using methods passed down in families for generations.
